TOMS' SPRING 2012 COLLECTION SHIMMERS WITH LENNY KRAVITZ
AS GUEST CREATIVE DIRECTOR
Rocker / Designer and Hunger Games Star Brings Bahamian Beat to
the One for One Movement
May 18, 2012 (Los Angeles, CA) - When TOMS founder Blake Mycoskie met rock icon Lenny Kravitz in late 2010, they instantly struck a chord over a love of music and simple living. Whether crafting new songs from an airstream trailer in the Bahamas, or developing ideas for the One for One movement from a sailboat in Venice, CA, the two men shared an understanding that big ideas can often flourish in subtle surroundings.
This notion led to the creation of TOMS 2012 Spring Collection, now available at www.TOMS.com<http://www.TOMS.com> and retail stores nationwide, which was inspired by Kravitz's one-of-a-kind-design aesthetic and his dedication to creative and low-impact living. Working as guest creative director with Mycoskie and TOMS' in-house design team, Kravitz helped infuse new TOMS styles with colorful woven prints, embroidered detailing, and even lyrics from his classic hit song, Let Love Rule.
Of the seemingly unexpected collaboration, TOMS Founder and Chief Shoe Giver Mycoskie said, "It was exciting and humbling to work with an icon like Lenny Kravitz and have the ability to share his story and inspiration through this season's collection. It's obvious that Lenny's talent's go way beyond music, and we're thrilled that we had a chance to collaborate with him on some really great TOMS."
"Being a guest creative director for TOMS was an exciting collaboration," said Lenny Kravitz. "I've been a longtime fan and admirer of the brand, not only for the quality of the product, but also for their social message and commitment to providing shoes to people in need."
No stranger to design, Kravitz founded his own company Kravitz Design Inc., in 2003. The firm's most recent endeavors include the branding and creative direction for the 47 story luxury condominium project Paramount Bay located in Miami, FL. Kravitz Design Inc. was also hired by French design icon Philippe Starck and Sam Nazarian to create the top floor and an exclusive bungalow for the second location of sbe's award-winning SLS Hotels brand, the SLS Hotel at South Beach, set to open later this year. Kravitz was asked by Philippe Starck to reinterpret a collection of six Mademoiselle armchairs (originally designed by Starck) exclusively for Kartell. The chairs were re-imagined and upholstered in a combination of fabrics chosen together with Starck and debuted at the Salone de Mobile in Milan, Italy in April 2012. Kravitz Design also recently partnered with Flavor Paper to launch Tropicalismo, a unique collection of hand-screened wallpapers.
Regarded as one of the preeminent rock musicians of our time, Lenny Kravitz has transcended genre, style, race and class into a 20-year musical career, one which revels in the influences of '60s and '70s soul, rock and funk. In that time, Kravitz has sold nearly 40 million albums worldwide and won four GRAMMY Awards. The artist's multiple talents as a writer, producer and multi-instrumentalist have resonated through nine studio albums into a timeless catalog.
Lenny Kravitz recently released Black and White America, a rock and funk-infused collection. He is currently out on a world tour, which will take him to stadiums and arenas across Europe and Russia this summer. Kravitz is also enjoying the success of his starring role in the feature film box office smash, The Hunger Games<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hunger_Games_(film)>, playing Katniss' creative stylist, Cinna. Last December, Kravitz was honored with one of the highest cultural awards in France when he was made an Officer of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ordre_des_Arts_et_des_Lettres> by French cultural minister Frederic Mitterrand in Paris. Kravitz is also lending his support for The UNICEF Tap Project to help the organization provide safe, clean water to children around the world

About TOMS:
In 2006, American traveler Blake Mycoskie befriended children in a village in Argentina and found they had no shoes to protect their feet. Wanting to help, he created TOMS, a company that would match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. One for One. Last year, TOMS evolved from a shoe company into the One for One company, and is now addressing an entirely new need in addition to shoes through eyewear - helping give sight to people in need.
