polka dot dress... in case you missed it

"It was one of those shows that people will be talking about five years
from now, saying, 'Back in 2011, I saw Cage the Elephant at a small
venue before they were huge... It was like I was watching a young Pearl
Jam or Nirvana. The energy, both onstage and in the crowd, was simply
undeniable." - SPIN.com
CEREBRAL BALLZY * Wednesday, May 18 @ Best Buy Theatre NYC's grimiest,
scream-iest, rocking-ist hardcore band - Cerebral Ballzy - is taking the
stage at Best Buy Theatre on Wednesday, May 18 with Face to Face. Their
debut self titled album is set to hit Adult Swim's Williams Street
Records on July 26 featuring tracks like their first single
"Insufficient Fare" and "Don't Tell Me What To Do" telling the story of
broken homes and broken bones while capturing the teenage punks'
experience growing up in the Big Apple's rotten center. Already dubbed
"New York's next great band" by the NME, Cerebral Ballzy have toured the
UK and Europe twice, performing with Anthrax, Fucked Up and OFF! and the
band continues its never-ending tour of America, jumping headfirst off
every monitor and surfing through every pit.

GRUFF RHYS * Wednesday, May 18 @ The Knitting Factory
Gruff Rhys, singer, songwriter and leader of Welsh band Super Furry
Animals as well as one half of celebrated electro duo Neon Neon and
documentarian extraordinaire is a veritable national treasure in his
native UK. Last week saw the US release of his fantastic new solo album,
Hotel Shampoo on Wichita Recordings. He is now bringing his live show to
NYC, kicking off his US tour on Wednesday, May 18th at The Knitting
Factory. He will be joined and supported by his backing band Y Niwl. The
title of the record is a reference to Gruff's unfortunate habit of
hoarding mini shampoo bottles and other complimentary hotel products
whilst on tour. Hotel Shampoo has already been met with a whirlwind of
rave reviews - Spin praises it as "...whimsically rewarding.... Super
Furry Animals' frontman makes the gimmicky sublime." Pitchfork found
that Hotel Shampoo "manages to strike the right balance between Rhys'
desire to indulge odd whims, lyrical humor, outright pop, and heartfelt
sentiment. More importantly, he always makes it sound effortless." The
album is full shimmering slices of kaleidoscopic, cinematic pop,
including the enticing singles "Sensations In The Dark"
<http://youtu.be/IBg_h9kmRhk> and "Shark Ridden Waters"
<http://youtu.be/usGdERPWoPU> which debuted on PitchforkTV earlier this
year.

WHITE LIES * Thursday, May 19 @ Terminal 5
London's White Lies are thrilled kick off a spring run of stateside
dates this May with the rescheduled New York City show happening on May
19 at Terminal 5 (School of Seven Bells to support on this date only).
In support of their sophomore release, Ritual, the band will be giving
their fans on this side of the ocean a taste of their new music in their
exciting live show! Ritual teems with dark distorted anthems for the
modern age. British critics have given White Lies accolades as
successors to the likes of Echo & The Bunnymen, The Teardrop Explodes,
Depeche Mode, The Psychedelic Furs and Magazine and have called lyricist
Charles Cave a " classic doom-rock dreamweaver; Nick Cave meeting Edgar
Allen Poe." The band will be performing on The Late Show With David
Letterman on May 16th, tune in for a sneak peek at their epic live set!
After their spring tour wraps they will head back to Europe to start a
tour with Kings of Leon, but fear not, the band will head back to the US
later this summer for a main stage performance at Lollapalooza.

CHEESEBURGER * Sunday, May 22 @ Brooklyn Bowl - 8pm EST (Viewing of new
episode of Adult Swim's Superjail! to follow)
Fans of Cheeseburger, Brooklyn, beer, bowling, live music, free shows
and Adult Swim are invited to join Brooklyn Bowl and Brooklyn Brewery as
they serve up the NYC-based rock band Cheeseburger as part of its
upcoming Local x Local event series at the Williamsburg bowling alley
and concert venue. The band will serve up tracks from its sophomore
album, Another Big Night Down the Drain, which was released May 3 on
Williams Street Records. Another Big Night Down the Drain has just as
much brawn and even more bite than the frenzied, gritty punk garage punk
from their 2006 debut. The record's bigger sound transports this group
of party seekers to a whole new level musically, with a thematic album
telling the tale of one poor sap's adventurous night on the town.
Fans of Cheeseburger can also catch songs from the new album peppered
throughout the current season of Adult Swim's Superjail!, the animated
comedy co-created by the band's guitarist Christy Karacas and Stephen
Warbrick. After the show, stick around to watch an all-new episode of
Superjail! live with the series creators and members of the cast and
crew.
