New York, NY – April 29, 2013 – Mayer Hawthorne has announced the release of his long-awaited third LP Where Does This Door Go on July 16th viaRepublic Records. The album features a host of top-flight production work from Pharrell Williams, Greg Wells, Jack Splash, and Oak (of Oak & Pop). The first single titled “Her Favorite Song” (produced by Oak) will be released in May. Earlier this month, Mayer gave us a little taste of what’s to come when he leaked the boogie-funk homage “Designer Drug.” PRESS HERE<http://youtu.be/DOdwSquHorw> to watch the lyric video. After playing instruments and producing for most of his life, the Ann Arbor, Michigan native uses his skills honed as a club DJ to create his own original dance floor fillers. In the last five years and two albums, Mayer has grown as a singer and songwriter attracting legions of fans worldwide for his distinct soul stylings. Recorded in LA, Miami and New York, some describe the vibe of Where Does This Door Go as “Steely Dan meets the Beastie Boys,” which suggests both a studio seriousness and playful approach, always evident in Mayer's work. He explains, “The only rule I had when I went in to make this album was that it had to be fun.” Lyrically, he’s moved away from the bitter break-up tone of his first two albums toward more diverse storytelling and personal coming-of-age content. Mayer describes Where Does This Door Go as “a journey into the unknown. As a musician, you’re only as good as your next record, and you never know what’s through that next door.”
Mayer’s last album How Do You Do, quickly garnered critical praise for the classic, soulful Motown sound and debuted at #1 on iTunes R&B/Soul and #7 on iTunes Top Albums lists. The New York Times describes Hawthorne as “an able singer, a gifted mimic and an arranger of astonishing precision” and has received praise from fellow musicians Justin Timberlake, Kanye West, John Mayer, Snoop Dogg, and more.
Mayer has also announced a summer tour supporting OneRepublic, along with a handful of headlining shows. Please visitwww.mayerhawthorne.com<http://www.mayerhawthorne.com/> for more information and see full tour routing below.
