(New York, NY - February 26, 2015) - As the celebration of Gov't Mule's 20th Anniversary rolls on, the band is preparing to release the next installment in its series of acclaimed live archival albums that have been receiving praise from the likes of Associated Press, Wall Street Journal, Guitar World, Billboard, Consequence of Sound, Relix and more. Dub Side of the Mule will be out on April 7th via Evil Teen Records. Recorded during Mule's fabled New Year Eve 2006 performance at the Beacon Theatre in New York City, the show features three-plus hours of Mule standards and covers, including a 1-hour reggae/R&B set featuring Toots Hibbert, the legendary founder of Toots & The Maytals. This set includes many of Toots' revered songs including: "Pressure Drop," "54-46 Was My Number," "Reggae Got Soul," and a rendition of his version of the Radiohead song, "Let Down." The album also includes special appearances by Gregg Allman & Friends and John Popper (from Blues Traveler).
All 34 tracks have been remixed and mastered. The album will be available three formats: standard edition CD (1 CD of the entire set with Toots, plus two additional Mule-only reggae songs), standard edition vinyl (two 180-gram vinyls of the Toots set, plus two additional Mule-only reggae songs & a download code for the digital files), and deluxe edition (3 CDs of the entire 3-hour performance, plus a DVD of the entire reggae set with Toots Hibbert. On April 18th, Gov't Mule will release Stoned Side of the Mule Volume 2 for Record Store Day as a six song, limited edition vinyl only available only at select independent record stores. Volume 1 was so successful that double the quantity will be made available for Volume 2 due to demand. It will feature six impassioned Rolling Stones covers, recorded on Halloween 2009 at the Tower Theatre in Philadelphia, PA and newly-edited and mastered with the vinyl lacquers cut from the old Stax Records lathe in Memphis.
Additionally, Gov't Mule has just announced new tour dates amidst their current tour with jazz guitar great John Scofield. The full list of tour dates is below. Mule and Scofield are on the road in support of their collaborative live archival album SCO-MULE, the all-instrumental rock/jazz LP released last month on the heels of Dark Side of the Mule, another live album featuring Pink Floyd covers.
