The track will be included on the first volume of the double album, The Afterman: Ascension due out on October 9, 2012 via Hundred Handed/Everything Evil/ Fontana Ingrooves.  The title track follows the explosive first single "Domino the Destitute," released a month ago, which has already garnered over 500k views. Inspired by true events, "The Afterman" served as the first track front-man Claudio Sanchez penned for the upcoming double-album.  "My wife was alerted about the death of a close friend through Facebook, which is the most impersonal way to receive this intensely personal news," Sanchez recalls. "Later that night, I sat down and just started writing a song"-it became the album's title track-"from the point of view of her experience. The album's concept followed from there."

"The Afterman" track and double-album continues in the band's tradition of rock-storytelling, and ventures further in depth of the The Amory Wars saga (much of which is available in comic series form, penned by Sanchez). The story-line behind 'The Afterman,' follows celebrated cosmonaut/astronomer Sirius Amory, who embarks on a journey where he makes the greatest scientific discovery ever known to mankind. However, the death of his wife upon his return causes him to realize what was truly important to him just slipped right through his hands, and his only mission now is to make amends.

In celebration of the release of the album, COHEED AND CAMBRIA will be hosting an album release party and pop-up art gallery event at Copro Gallery/Bergamot Station from 8pm - 11pm on October 6 in Santa Monica, CA. The event, presented by Juxtapose, is free and open to the public.  Eighteen original paintings (Acrylic on panel), inspired conceptually from each song from the album by Nathan Spoor, as well as the original cover painting from Heidi Taillefer will be on display.  The band will also perform a stripped down set for attendees.  While the band is in NY, fans will also be able to stop by the band's booth at the New York Comic Con at the Jacob Javits Center. Coheed will be signing, Friday October 12 at 5pm While Claudio will be signing with his wife on Saturday, October 13 at 4pm.  Following release week, the band will continue across the states on tour, wrapping up at Voodoo Festival in New Orleans.

About The Afterman:  The first volume from the double-album charts Sirius' sci-fi journey into the stars of the alternate universe known well by Coheed fans as "Heaven's Fence." Upon entering "the Keywork," the blue gaseous energy force that powers these worlds, Amory stumbles upon the Afterlife. In his first confrontation with a soul, "Domino the Destitute" possesses Sirius, who is forced to relive the frenetic events that had occurred in Domino's waking life. The second volume, 'Descension' follows Sirius' return to his home planet after a long absence and the negative effects that follow.
