MOON TAXI
Cabaret
Out February 7th, 2012
[MoonTaxi]

Moon Taxi, the impressive Nashville band that has captivated audiences in the southeast and beyond, have announced the release of their long awaited new studio album. Cabaret will be released on February 7th, 2012. Moon Taxi will be playing new music on the road this fall on their MPFree tour, which gives fans that purchase tickets in advance a free download of a new track from Cabaret. Fans can also get their hands on new song "All The Rage" today through the Georgia Theatre's website. Click here<http://www.facebook.com/GeorgiaTheatre> to download. Tour dates, including the band's legendary New Year's Eve show, below.

Guest-produced by Hank Sullivant, mixed by GRAMMY award winning sound engineer Vance Powell (Raconteurs), and recorded at Alex The Great in Nashville, Cabaret weaves the magnetic energy of Moon Taxi's live show with musical ingenuity and thoughtful lyrics. A follow-up to their live album, Live Ride, Cabaret illustrates the challenges of defining yourself in a world that seems to be suffering from its own identity loss. After spending the better part of 2009 and 2010 on the open road, playing shows across the country to enthusiastic crowds and increasingly packed houses as well as festivals such as Mountain Jam, Wakarusa, Summer Camp and Hangout Festival, Moon Taxi retreated to their hometown Nashville to hone the songs that they had created on the road. With inspiration ranging from surrealist art, to Tom Robbins books, to encounters while touring the country, Cabaret is a fully evolved album with depth and intensity that is unexpected from a band that also has a knack for getting everyone in a room to dance. "It's about juxtaposition-putting together seemingly opposite ideas and finding a strange harmony, says vocalist and guitarist Trevor Terndrup. "I guess we are trying to say that things are not so black and white, or good or evil, but relative to your own perspective." The band has already formed a loyal fan base across the Southeast, selling out clubs and creating a strong grassroots following through their own headlining shows as well as opening for artists such as Umphrey's McGee, Matisyahu and Gov't Mule. Keyboardist Wes Bailey says, "It's an incredible feeling to see people who we've never met before in a town we've never played before, dancing and singing our lyrics at the top of their lungs."

Moon Taxi fans will be eager to get their hands on these new tracks, which range from explosive (see: "Mercury Youth") to emotionally introspective (see: "Let's Go Back"). Title track "Cabaret" has a propulsive ska beat that unfolds into a mischievous groove. Heavily road tested, track "Hypnus" is sure to be a live classic with its unrelenting beat and acrobatic vocals from Trevor Terndrup. Friend and tour mate Matisyahu lends guest vocals to "Square Circles," which the band recorded on board the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus at this year's Hangout Festival. "Radio" creates its own brand of southern tinged pop, while closing track "Gunflower" is a lovely last chapter that rolls the album to a close.
