Artists Also Unveil ‘Wise Up Ghost’ Album Art


[ECATR_CD_cover.JPG]Elvis Costello and The Roots have announced that they will premiere the first single, “Walk Us Uptown,” off of their highly anticipated collaborative album, Wise Up Ghost, TODAY. Both the track and lyric video are now available for streaming and viewing exclusively via Pitchfork.com. The existence of the Wise Up Ghost, which is due out September 17th on Blue Note Records, was first revealed by ?uestlove as an aside during an interview with Billboard Magazine in January. Most of the sessions for Wise Up Ghost took place in secret at Feliz Habitat Studios in the dead of night, while others were in plain sight at Costello’s Hookery Crookery Studios. The collection promises to be one of the most unexpected and surprising releases of 2013 with Elvis describing it as “a cauldron full of powders and potions, frogs and fingers.” and Ahmir calling it “a moody, brooding affair, cathartic rhythms and dissonant lullabies.”

Today, the artists also revealed the cover art for Wise Up Ghost,. The design was inspired by that of the legendary City Lights Pocket Poets Series<http://www.citylights.com/book/?GCOI=87286100465920&fa=author&person_id=4843>, conceived by poet and publisher Lawrence Ferlinghetti and specifically it’s an homage to the cover of “Howl and Other Poems” by Allen Ginsberg, published in 1956. The genesis of this idea began with Blue Note Records president Don Was who saw the connection between Costello’s lyrics and the presentation of the poetry of Ginsberg, Ferlinghetti and Corso by City Lights who graciously supported the use of their celebrated design.
