Philly Goes Green: Waste Watchers Volunteer Program Launches at POPPED!

FESTIVAL TO BE HELD SEPTEMBER 23 AND 24 IN PHILADELPHIA'S FDR PARK

POPPED! Music Festival<poppedphiladelphia.com> announces the addition of three infectious, new acts to their already impressive music line-up.  Philly's own Sun Airway and R&B singer-songwriter Nikki Jean plus, emerging NYC emcee ASAP Rocky have joined the festival's Saturday line-up. For the first time ever, POPPED! will take over the FDR Park and advocates to go green with the support of the city's new eco volunteer program, Waste Watchers.
Sun Airway's Jon Barthmus and Patrick Marsceill perform with a plethora of synthesizers on stage creating a sound Pitchfork describes as, "...beaming major-key melodies, swirling synth tones, and drum machine chatter dipped in dubby reverb." Nikki Jean is known for her vocals on Lupe Fiasco's single "Hip-Hop Saved My Life" from the #1 rap record The Cool. After touring with Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Rihanna and N.E.R.D. for the Glow In The Dark Tour, Jean has gone on to release her acclaimed album, Pennies In Jar, this summer. ASAP Rocky, has sat down with FADER TV, Village Voice, Prefix Magzine, Sterogum, among others, within the last two weeks to talk about his current rap single "Peso." Sun Airway, Nikki Jean and ASAP Rocky will share the stage with other performers: Foster The People, Girl Talk, Pretty Lights, Kreayshawn, and many more!
This year POPPED! is introducing a number of green initiatives.  Leading the charge is Waste Watchers, a volunteer group tasked with "greening" large events in the city will debut at the Festival.  Waste Watchers is a component of the Mayor's Office-backed by Greenworks Philadelphia - a comprehensive sustainability plan to make Philadelphia the greenest city in America by 2015. The festival also plans to stay green with waste reduction, water filtration systems, and composting, encouraging festival-goers to use public transportation and requiring food vendors to serve in compostable containers.
The POPPED! Music Festival is a 2-day outdoor destination festival on the lush grounds of FDR Park showcasing intriguing and diverse artists on three stages of live music, DJ's, and stand-up comedy. Produced by Electric Factory, in conjunction with Alexis Rosenzweig of POPPED! Festival, Inc., POPPED! Music Festival is a testament to showcasing Philadelphia as a prime destination for live music.
