On May 11th, acclaimed vocalist and songwriter Somi will take the stage
at the Kumble Theatre on the Long Island University Brooklyn Campus with
celebrated musician Hugh Masekela as part of 651 ARTS' "Live &
Outspoken" series that pairs up and coming artists with legendary
performers. Masekela, who appears on Somi's latest album, If the Rains
Come First, will interview Somi then join her band for a very special
performance. Originally from Uganda and Rwanda, Somi grew up between
Illinois and Zambia, but currently resides in Harlem. Her third full
length album, If the Rains Come First (ObliqSound) debuted at #2 on the
Billboard World Music Charts and secured Somi's position on the front
lines of a new generation of emerging African artists. Somi has
collaborated with and performed alongside artists including Paul Simon,

Nas and Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley are gearing up for an exclusive preview
performance of their debut collaborative album Distant Relatives on May
17th at the Highline Ballroom in New York. This date falls just one
night before the album's highly anticipated May 18th release. Featuring
the signature instrumentation and musicianship of Damian "Jr. Gong"
Marley with the hard-hitting beats and lyrics of Nas, the album title
refers not only to the bond between the artists, but the connection to
their African ancestry, which inspired the album both musically and
lyrically.   Following the release, their groundbreaking "Distant
Relatives Tour" will kick off on May 21st in Arcata, CA and include
performances at Bonnaroo, June 11th and Gathering of The Vibes, August
