Brooklyn-based duo The Last Royals<http://thelastroyals.tumblr.com/> - writer, singer and producer Eric James and drummer Mason Ingram - are thrilled to announce that their new three-song teaser of infectious indie-pop tracks is set for release on October 2nd before dropping their debut LP, Twistification, on Ooh La La Records<http://www.oohlalarecordings.com> in early 2013. The band will also be taking over Union Hall in Brooklyn, NY for a high-energy set tomorrow Wednesday, August 8th with special guests Youngman Grand, Tan Vampires, and DJ Brain Bonz.
In early 2010, James and Ingram instantly connected and formed the band after working together on a charity record with producer Mike Beck. Before that James was writing and demoing a collection of songs, but was still seeking a broader personality and gravitas for the project. Together they seamlessly rounded out their pop sound with rock and roll elements and the two, with Beck producing, began forging a grander collective that resulted in their buzzed about self-titled EP and now Twistification. The teaser for the forthcoming record will include the band's already popular number "Crystal Vases," which was featured on pair's 2010 debut EP and spent four-months on Sirius XM Alt Nation's Top 18 countdown, magnetic track "Friday Night," and of course "Only The Brave."  The twosome recorded the new project as series of short sessions at Beck's Brooklyn studio between headlining performances, supporting Zach Williams & The Bellow and a tour with Lovedrug, plus appearing as a musical guest at several events for the nonprofit To Write Love On Her Arms.
For Twistification, the group reworked virtually all of James' original songs to create an album with a narrative flow. "Musicians hold to this idea that people still listen to albums, even though they probably don't anymore," James says.  "But there's something beautiful about that ideal, and it drives me as a songwriter.  I believe the album has a beginning, middle, and an end.  There's a natural arc of tension, chaos and finally release."
And it's not just about the music.  James' original concept of the songs as a "soundtrack for the urban lifestyle" remains the defining core of The Last Royals.  Shimmering pop melodies are extorted from and set against real life experiences in NYC  - skateboarding for groceries, taking artistic photos on a rooftop, or capturing videos in the park - that help to showcase their secondary passions and become another aesthetic for The Last Royals and their music. The songs that appear on the three-song teaser and Twistification merge all these influences together. They're tracks that generate both thought and movement, suggesting that pop music can literately be intelligent while still resonating with an easy-going memorability.
