MS. LAURYN HILL RETURNS TO NYC
FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY SHOW AT THE HIGHLINE BALLROOM TOMORROW, JUNE 2nd!

[PRESS PHOTO]Ms. Lauryn Hill will be performing a very special show at the Highline Ballroom in New York City this Saturday, June 2nd. The show starts promptly at 8 pm (for real!).

The legendary Grammy Award winning MC, vocalist, producer and songwriter is fresh off her first European tour in several years, where she played sold out shows and received rave reviews in every city from from Paris to Stockholm. The dates included a headlining performance at the Indigo2 Arena in London, where The Independent declared Ms. Hill's live show to have "more than enough triumphs to certify this lady's on the comeback."

More praise for Ms. Lauryn Hill live in London:

"A dizzying 90-minutes of crescendos, genre-twists - rap, psychedelic-rock, gospel, disco - key changes and tempo shifts, shot through with Hill's melismatic vocals and vivid melodies.." - The Telegraph
"In addition to being blown away by her undeniable vocal talent, the audience was also reacquainted with Miss Hill's emceeing prowess." - The Voice

"An ecstatic tribute to [Ms. Lauryn Hill's] musical heritage and the album that made her famous." - The Independent

"She bounds on to stage, a bundle of manic energy...the restless Hill bends her catalogue into new shapes." - The Guardian

A statement from Ms. Lauryn Hill:
"The live performance allows me a direct report with the audience, without any external agendas to try and skew or manipulate our exchange. It also allows the many living ideas in my brain a place of expression, in real time!! I enjoy it, even prefer it sometimes!

Perhaps unbeknownst to my fans, I have experienced severe persecution and seen institutional racism, denial, and inequity wage it's aggression, both covertly and overtly at me, simply for trying to be an authentic expression of Truth and Love to the best of my ability! All this while, trying to heal, decolonize my mind and emotions, and protect and raise my children in freedom, safety, whole, in tact, and in good health... which this paradigm, in its current state, is little set up to do. Black mediocrity, black dysfunction, hopelessness and despair, black compromise and black disability... yes, these archetypes it seems to wholeheartedly allow... but black giftedness, black divine right, black intelligence, wisdom, and noble beauty it works very hard to disallow! Thus, explaining some of the business I've had to handle, which kept me away from engaging with the people. The world, in its turmoil, often seeks to exploit to distortion would-be natural exchanges between artists and those who appreciate them! This is diametrically opposed to my belief, better my knowledge and conviction, that things left to honesty and Love will become fruitful, as they were intended to be, if undisturbed by fear and greed's design.

As I continue to engage in this fight against oppression, both seen and unseen, at home and abroad, NYC remains an important landmark, and place of critical dialogue! Maintaining its status as revolutionary and progressive, we get excited to see the real Lovers show up! Keep up!!!"

Praise for Ms. Lauryn Hill's 2011 Tour:

"Hill sounded fantastic. She's probably the best female singer-rapper of all time...switching between Nina Simone-style soul incantations and limber Caribbean-inflected rhymes with ease."
Rolling Stone

"As she bobbed and weaved through the thickets of sound, it became clear that Hill had a firm grasp on bringing both the noise and the funk."
Variety

"Several of the songs from 'Miseducation' were substantially reworked, but Ms. Hill's energetic delivery enabled the crowd to find familiar segments to embrace...it seemed clear that she has renewed her enthusiasm for the music on which she built her reputation."
The Wall Street Journal
