The 2nd Annual Ars Nova 54/10 Music Marathon Draws to a Close with an Afrobeat Bang...and a Dance Party

The 2nd Annual Ars Nova 54/10 Music Marathon has come to a close after two whirlwind weeks of eclectic music from New York City's most exciting and dynamic new bands. After launching on June 14th, 54/10 put the spotlight on an incredible line-up that featured a dizzying number of musical styles. Live sets spanned jazz rock to piano pop to orchestral space rock to experimental pop, and the last set of the marathon, performed by 11-piece Afrobeat band EMEFE, resulted in a full-on dance party as drums, bongos, a sax, a trumpet, and a flute wailed late into the hazy summer night; a fitting end to 54/10.
Ars Nova - New York City's premier hub for emerging creative talent - presented incredible new artists during the marathon that included composer/actor/musician Justin Levine, one-woman experimental pop wonder Unicornicopia and ARMS featuring former Harlem Shakes member Todd Goldstein. Another highlight was Freestyle Love Supreme, an interactive music/comedy/hip-hop group helmed by the creators of the Grammy & Tony Award-winning musical In The Heights, who headlined the 54/10 benefit party.  With 54/10, Ars Nova has continued its tradition of presenting brilliant new music while welcoming up-and-coming artists into their creative community.
