Anna Calvi Unveils Video For Latest Single “Desire”

Set to Play Le Poisson Rouge in New York City on JULY 27th

Anna Calvi is excited to present the video for “Desire”, the latest single from her self-titled debut (Domino) TODAY on Pitchfork. Watch it here HERE. Directed by Aoife McArdle, the dark chanteuse of the UK haunts us once again with stunning visuals and evocative scenes set in flickering lights.

For those of us lucky enough to catch one of Anna Calvi’s first shows in the U.S. last month the scene was this: a darkened room, sweltering heat and dripping sweat. As the stage filled with smoke, she emerged like ice cold water hitting sauna rocks – Anna Calvi shredded her guitar with all the passion and vigor we’d imagined. March saw the release of her self-titled debut (Domino) an astonishingly confident and charismatic record focusing on the unique strengths of her songwriting, incredible vocals and striking mastery of the fret board.

Anna Calvi will make her return to the states playing a one-off show in New York City at the ever sultry Le Poisson Rouge on July 27th.

Praise for Anna Calvi:

“Though 2011 is still young, it’s unlikely there will be any debut this year in rock and pop that’s as striking as “Anna Calvi.” It’s a compelling album that promises a long, fruitful career for her.” - Wall Street Journal

“The velvety singer-guitarist’s gripping, pin-back-your-ears ode to ‘blue and gold and fire’ would leave David Lynch in a puddle”- Spin

“…cinematic, larger than life. As Ms. Calvi sings about the overpowering forces of heavenly love and demonic passion, she can go from whisper to cataclysm in four minutes, and she regularly does.” - The New York Times

“With her moody, even spooky allure, this British singer-songwriter – conjures up a debut album that feels like it could be the sound-track to a David Lynch or Quentin Tarantino film.” -People Magazine
“Her often eerie portraits of romantic obsession have drawn allusions to David Lynch’s gothic edginess, Sergio Leone’s mythological expansiveness and the ravishing beauty of Chinese director Wong Kar-Wai's films.” – Los Angeles Times

“Calvi is an outstanding performer, armed with a twangy Fender Telecaster and a voice most anyone would steal if they could… Her self-titled debut is one of the first big surprises of 2011, as well as one of my new favorites… It's a potent and yearning set of songs, replete with shimmering chords and Calvi's stunning but vulnerable vocals.” – Bob Boilen, NPR
