New Zealand’s Zowie Announces Show at
SXSW: NZ Showcase on March 16th
Debuts video for “Bite Back”!
Coming on like a teenage Joan Jett with a drum machine, all Pulp Fiction bangs and kaleidoscopic baton swinging, Zowie is a futuristic cheerleader from planet Wow. Headed back stateside for an appearance at SXSW, she will play the New Zealand Showcase on Wednesday March 16th at Brush Square Park in Austin, TX.
A whip-smart 22 year old karate-proficient Antipodean with a penchant for percussion, a hyperglycemic imagination and a dizzying creative ferocity, Zowie made quite the splash at October’s CMJ festival in New York City. In the short span of the festival she captured the attention landed on the cover of the Sunday New York Times' Style section ("Was It the Music Marathon or Fashion Week?": http://nyti.ms/bpKZv2) before receiving raves for her music from Nylon Magazine and Perez Hilton for her uniquely syncopated rhythms and pension for avant garde ensembles.
Likened to Souxie Soux and Chrissie Hynde, Zowie is a bite-sized piece of pop perfection. Each of her tracks have distilled a bubbling mix of vintage synth-pop, shimmering electro, playground chants and rock n roll swagger to create a moxy-fuelled sound all of her own. Check out her latest video for current Australian smash hit single “Bite Back” HERE, a gothic visual set to an explosive beat.
Recently signed to Sony Music, Zowie has released her debut single “Broken Machine” in Australia and New Zealand, where it debuted top 5 on the singles charts. Her debut album is expected to hit the states this summer. Stay tuned to this space for more Zowie announcements!

Early praise For Zowie:
“… songs are riled-up dance music, often starting with a perky synthetic beat that shortly gets slammed against the dance floor by distorted rhythm guitar. Zowie tops the groove with a voice that has the quavers of Siouxie Sioux….singing (and sometimes rapping) pronouncements like ‘You treat me like I am someone else’ and, even better, ‘I want to destroy you with sound’ - Jon Pareles, NY Times
“With beats reminiscent of The Knife on a not-so-dark day, and a hint of 80’s synths, it’s a right catchy tune.” – Filter Magazine
“Zowie’s stature doesn’t reflect her rambunctious vocals. The Auckland, New Zealand native has glitter and spark in each track” – New York Press
