Already gracing magazine covers in France and Ireland having garnered elusive 4 star reviews from British music bibles Mojo and Uncut, Anna Calvi is one of the UK’s fastest rising stars. Championed by both Nick Cave and Brian Eno, Anna has recently added Karl Lagerfeld to her growing list of fans from the creative elite. She's been gracing magazine covers across Europe, including Modzik in France, and has recently been featured in British Vogue. Early praise for Anna Calvi:
“Her music is the sonic equivalent of a deep red lipstick kiss on a bar napkin. Anna Calvi…combines reverb-drenched guitar, harmonium, and percussion to raise the hairs on your neck...Calvi's singing and guitar playing are so cold-slap virtuosic and self-possessed that it's like the work of a scary new species… the chill you get is truly unnerving” - Spin
“…her inaugural record unfolds with alluring stealth….Anna Calvi rises about the instant-gratification kick of so much contemporary music…whispers, shadowy impulses, counterbalancing unbridled orchestral passages, and the tumult of that voice.” –Mojo (4 Stars)
“This isn’t just a great debut. It’s a fearless rejection of current pop trends, fashioning a benchmark of intensity and originality that the rest of this year’s albums will struggle to match” – Uncut (4 stars)
“Her sultry self-titled debut album…delivers the same eerie, sophisticated coolness David Lynch defined in Twin Peaks, and Calvi’s intention, to escape into her performances via her dark musical alter ego, is clear to see.” - (US) Vogue
“Her chords are the kind that make grown men contemplate air guitar simulation.” - AOL Spinner
“Anna Calvi is the brooding siren who makes demigods weak at the knees” -NME
“An immense, reverb-drenched, gothic production job laced with lashings of panoramic, post-Siouxsie drama form The Voice Of 2011” – Class Rock Magazine
