The genre-bending, musical polymath Glass Theory<http://www.glasstheorymusic.com/> - AKA Los Angeles musician and producerJack Duff -  premieres his first single, ideal-for-your-summer-playlist, "By The Bar," today as a free download on NylonMag.com HERE<http://nylonmag.com/nylonblogs/blog/2012/06/06/free-music-glass-theory/>. The alluring electro-pop track is a perfect first glimpse of Duff's self-released debut EP, Hang Up, which will be unveiled as a series of singles until the project's release date on July 31st.



Duff, who grew up studying classical piano and jazz drumming, has built his solo project, Glass Theory, from a variety of inspirations that draw equally from his fascination with 80's new wave and his affinity for Swedish-pop.  After playing with numerous groups around LA, Duff spent most of 2011 writing and improving his production skills. Duff explains, "It became obvious which songs were the real sound of what I've always wanted my solo project to be. It was a natural progression out of playing drums, sequencing, and co-writing. I think it really prepared me to hone in on my sound and be self-sufficient."



This is apparent on Hang Up - a six-song collection of electro hybrids infused with strong Top 40 pop hooks.  Besides "By The Bar," the one-man crafted EP will also feature the hypnotic track "Scream," and intoxicating back-to-back numbers "Take Your Time" and Flip The Switch," while reaching its apex with the Prince inspired track "A Little Bit." Hang Up will also showcase Duff's production skills (think Mark Ronson), which is reflected on all the EP's tracks, including the electrifying song "Out of Time" that features the New York City-based songstress Sage.  The disc reveals the musical mastermind's ability to craft a heart-pounding, electronic-paradise that becomes more alive with each sensual lyric.



The music is only one aspect of Glass Theory, too. Duff's striking personal style and unmistakable panache, which he brings into the project's aesthetic, is used to augment his music. "I try to not follow trends," Duff says. "I try to be true to how I feel and how I want to portray myself, especially onstage. That has really evolved over the years. It's now a mixture of high fashion and a dirty, industrial appearance. It makes me feel very primal and really gets me in the mood when I'm performing."
