The first taste of that album is "The Blast, the Bloom," a brooding track that finds Adebimpe singing over fewer electronic sounds than TVOTR, with a menacing bass groove and some far-out guitar work that accentuates his stark vocals.  - SPIN

Higgins Waterproof Black Magic Band marries shoegaze guitar to post-punk rhythms and dub bass and vocal effects. The effect is moody but undeniably groovy. Lead single "The Blast, The Boom" is explosive and immediate. Tracks like "Knocking Ghost" evoke Fugazi at their most atmospheric, while epic album closer "Mad Lifeline" stacks mountains of delay on top of West African rhythms until the tension nearly snaps. - Afropunk
