Acclaimed rock artist Ryan Star will return with the release of his Animals EP out August 5th. Billboard.com recently premiered the lead single "Impossible" - PRESS HERE<http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/pop-shop/4439958/ryan-star-impossible-exclusive-single-premiere> to listen (also streaming now on Ryan's YouTube page - PRESS HERE<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPVJlTWz2gg&feature=youtu.be> to check it out). The 5-song EP, which was executive produced by Ryan, is available for pre-order now on iTunes - PRESS HERE<https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/animals-ep/id677958252>.

After taking the music world by storm during the last three years, Ryan had a single pivotal question when beginning work on his new music - "what's the point?" Steadfastly purposeful, Ryan set out to remain as honest and raw as possible, both in his songwriting and his musicianship. Reclaiming his art, he instinctually penned songs that needed to get out for no other reason than his own creative catharsis. The result is an intimate EP with a cinematic flare, and the kind of understated yet moving power that only R. Star can deliver.

With songs birthed at his piano, he headed to Clubhouse Studios in Rhinebeck, NY, to record for the first time with his touring band, tapping into the kinetic and unpredictable energy that he has become beloved for in his performances. That live quality, expertly captured during the all-analog recording sessions, is at the forefront of Animals and played a key role in shaping Ryan's fresh sound. There's grit and gusto to the collection akin to his earliest influences such as Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen and Peter Gabriel. Animals is like meeting Ryan Star for the first time, but the truth is he's been making his mark on the music scene for the past few years.

Ryan - who is a Long Island native and now calls Brooklyn home - has had his music featured prominently in more than 50 films and TV shows, including P.S. I Love You, The Vampire Diaries and the opening theme song to Lie To Me. Given his live prowess, he's been tapped to open for many of today's chart-topping artists and has even shared the stage with childhood idol and friend Steven Van Zandt. His 2010 full-length major label debut, 11:59, landed at #10 on Billboard's Rock Albums Chart and #4 on the Tastemakers Chart. Then, his 2012 hit "Stay Awhile" lit up airwaves and quickly amassed over 2 million YouTube views, earning him a performance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Ryan signed to Island Def Jam in 2012, but is choosing to self-release his new music, in keeping with his fresh approach and full control of his art.

Lead single "Impossible" builds from a staggering beat into an invasive yet irresistible keyboard and vocal plea. The song and EP title were inspired by the quote "humans are a hybrid between animals and angels." It explores coming to terms with the dark and the light as well as the animal and angel inside all of us. The EP opener "Bullet" blasts into even starker territory. Recorded completely live in one take with the entire band, you can even hear the creaking of the broken guitar as Ryan delves into what it really means to be willing to die for your love. From the nostalgic "World I Used To Know" to the stripped-down, coming-of-age song "F*ck'n Up" to the unique love song "My Life With You," the music has edge, tenderness, colorful melodies, and most importantly, heart.

Ryan, who is known for his raw and electric shows, will perform special EP release shows in New York City August 6 at Joe's Pub, August 7 at Rockwood Music Hall, August 8 at Piano's and August 9 at Mercury Lounge. He is revisiting the stages where it all began for him with up-close-and-personal shows. Be sure to catch him live!
