After six years in the making, Butchers of Sky Valley have announced their eponymous debut album, set for release on November 5, 2013 via Heeled & Heavy Records. For a taste of what's to come, PRESS HERE<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iq_Z5prREQE> for "Get Loose" and PRESS HERE<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZTaCfwca4w> for "It's Not the Pale Moon That Excites Me," both out now on iTunes.

Underneath gusts of heavy distortion and murmurs of bombastic blues, the New York outfit unlocks psychedelic soul and crooning vocals. Rising from the ashes of each song is a mysterious allure both infectious and indefinable. Butchers of Sky Valley mine the past yet thrive in the present weaving their own signatures rooted in rock and wrangling lyrics.

The album, much like how it came to be, is intensely personal, reflecting shards and glimmers of emotions in the band's very own sonic pastiche. In 2007, singer Mike Mokotow and the band's former guitarist John Cosenza initially began writing songs together on a whim, bonding over their appreciation of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, early ZZ Top, The Dirty Three, Black Sabbath, Lightnin' Hopkins and Queens of the Stone Age. As their creative partnership progressed, both gentlemen married, while Cosenza enjoyed the birth of his first child and endured the loss of his father (which Mokotow had also experienced in his own life a decade prior to the band's formation). A collection of songs slowly began to take shape over the course of six years, colored by these life changes. The album became a rich soundtrack to their real-life movie and quite the cathartic release for the two-some. After Cosenza chose to step back from the band to take care of family obligations, Mokotow rounded out the line-up with guitarist Tim Brummer, bassist Jeff Knaster, and drummer Davis Rowan. Cosenza remains an integral studio partner for the band.

There's a sense of intrigue inherent within Butchers of Sky Valley, from the band's name to the album's lyrical content. While Mokotow hints that the band name partly derives from the Kyuss classic Welcome to Sky Valley, it's a name that leaves you pondering the meaning behind it, just like the writing on the album. The cinematic lyrics conjure up vivid images delivered with depth and immediacy but leave the listener with the urge to continue exploring the message tinged with a seductive purpose.

On lead single "Hold On Heartbreak," a roaring riff rises as a seductive hazy hook seeps into focus. Elsewhere on the album, "Pony Up" channels Black Sabbath with its brash full throttle riffage, while "Get Loose" shakes out enough Delta swagger to flood the Mississippi with a mind-numbing solo and the proclamation-"Let's get the blues!" Album opener "Black Magic" casts its spell through ominous six-string fireworks and ethereal chanting. Closing track "Tantuniu" pays tribute to the pair's fathers. But perhaps frontman Mike Mokotow's colorful description of their sound says it like no one else can: "If early ZZ Top bitch-slapped The Black Keys while Queens of the Stone Age was on the radio, that would be Butchers of Sky Valley."

The band will play a special pre-release show in New York City at Santos Party House on October 24th. The Veevees, Those Mockingbirds and Strange Majik (of The Dead Exs) will also perform.
