NEW YORK, NY, October 17, 2012-COHEED AND CAMBRIA's first volume of their double-album, The Afterman: Ascension debuts at #5 on the Billboard Top 200 chart this week, selling 49k+ units!  The nine-track album also garnered a slew of excellent first week sales numbers, landing 'Ascension' as the top seller at Hard Music/Alternative core stores, #2 on the Hard Music and Current Alternative Album charts, and number #3 on the Indie chart.
After departing the major label system with 2010's Year of the Black Rainbow, COHEED AND CAMBRIA are thrilled with the success of volume one of 'The Afterman,' which was released on the band's own label, Everything Evil, in conjunction with Hundred Handed Inc.
True to Coheed's restlessly exploratory nature, the nine-track Ascension finds the New York-based band-singer-guitarist Claudio Sanchez, guitarist Travis Stever, bassist Zach Cooper and drummer Josh Eppard-staking out exciting new ground. "With all of our previous albums, my thing was always figuring out how to fit my life into the Amory Wars concept," Sanchez says. "I knew where each one sat in terms of the story. Whereas with this one, I allowed my life-my experiences and what I was going through-to frame the concept."

After heavy promotion during week of release (which saw the band perform a SOLD OUT show at New York's Webster Hall, appearances at New York Comic Con, and surprise performances/signings at NY and LA indie record stores, as well as Apple's Soho New York store) COHEED AND CAMBRIA will wrap up a string of tour dates this month at Voodoo Music Experience (w/Metallica, Neil Young, Jack White) on October 28th.   The band is also gearing up to release the video for their second single, "The Afterman." The song premiered last month via Rolling Stone (PRESS HERE<http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/song-premiere-coheed-and-cambria-the-afterman-20120926> to stream) as one of their "Most Popular" news stories of the week.
Also in the works is a live-action film of the successful comic series, penned by front-man Claudio Sanchez,The Amory Wars, produced by Mark Wahlberg and Leverage Productions (more info below). With rumors of a headlining winter tour, volume two of the double album, The Afterman: Descension is set for release in February 2013.
