Today brings the EP’s digital release on A&M/Octone. With a nu-disco vibe, club-friendly beats, glorious choruses and piano hooks, the duo - Ben “B-Roc” Ruttner and James “JPatt” Patterson – makes electronic music sound organic, installing a soul amongst all the ones and zeros. Featuring production by Victor Van Vugt (Fischerspooner, PJ Harvey, Nick Cave), Fab Dupont (Shakira, Mark Ronson, Jennifer Lopez), and Gary Go (Benny Benassi), the songs dive into that magic hour – hence the EP title – that unmistakable mix of energy and anticipation that is about to lead to an unforgettable night on the town. Shortly after the NME declared The Knocks to be one of the “20 hottest producers in music” for their versatile production and remix work for the likes of Rihanna, Ellie Goulding, Foster The People, Chiddy Bang and Katy Perry, the NME was once again singing The Knocks’ praises, this time for their own songs, saying that they have “stepped out from behind the desk to rebirth the Superstar DJ.” Magic makes it no wonder why The Knocks have been setting the dance circuit and the blogosphere abuzz. The Roots * undun (Island Def Jam)
[the-roots-undun-press-release]The legendary Roots crew’s new studio album undun is out today through Island Def Jam.  This release marks their first conceptually-based album and is based on a complex youth who struggles to define himself within a troubled inner city milieu and dies in the process. The album’s first single “Make My” featuring Big K.R.I.T was released November 1st oniTunes.

undun is an existential re-telling of the short life of one Redford Stephens (1974-1999). Through the use of emotives and Redford’s internal dialogues the album seeks to illustrate the intersection of free will and prescribed destiny as it plays out ‘on the corner’. Utilizing a reverse narrative arc, the album begins as the listener finds Redford disoriented--postmortem--and attempting to make sense of his former life. As he moves through its pivotal moments he begins to deconstruct all that has led to his (and our own) coming undun.
