Downtown/Mercer Street Records is proud to announce the release of Katie Herzig’s new studio album,
The Waking Sleep, on September 20, 2011. Her most sophisticated work to date,
The Waking Sleep, takes Herzig’s musical innovation to a new level. The album’s first track, ‘Free My Mind,’ is set for release this July.

Waking Sleep delivers a profound and moving landscape of sound that highlights Herzig’s undeniable talent. Katie began writing/recording the new album in February of last year, celebrating her love for combining
digitally programmed sounds with organic and orchestrated instruments. The collection quickly illustrates Herzig as a hands-on artist who builds her songs in the same way she might mold a sculpture. Some of the stand
out tracks on the album include magnetic ‘Make a Noise,’ exhilarating ‘Way to the Future’ and heart-rending ‘Closest I Get.’

In addition to her new album, Herzig will be touring this September with the

After several years of fronting Colorado-based band Newcomers Home, Katie decided to strike it solo and move to Nashville where she quickly became a fixture in the independent music scene. Since then Katie released several iTunes
singles and two studio albums, Weightless and Apple Tree, containing songs that have been featured on
NPR, KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic, Target, Honda and Samsung commercials,
Going The Distance and Sex and The City soundtracks along with many television shows including 7 songs on
Grey’s Anatomy. She’s participated in Nashville’s Ten Out of Tenn tour, Hotel Café Tour and has spent the greater part of the last few years touring with her band around the US supporting artists like
Brandi Carlile and The Fray and several others. Katie was featured in
Billboard Magazine’s “Now Hear This” as well as one of
PASTE Magazine’s 25 “Best of What’s Next” artists.
