Now in its 16th year, the songwriting contest is highlighting more promising songwriters than ever before in 12 categories and providing the chance to win more than $275,000 in prizes, including $20,000 cash! The esteemed panel of artists and music industry leaders judging this year's competition include Natasha Bedingfield, Ryan Shaw, Fergie, Bob Weir, Jesse Harris, Teairra Mari, Lamont Dozier, Matt Pinfield, The Black Eyed Peas, The Bacon Brothers, Mike Pinder, Ken Komisar and The Veronicas.

Entries will be judged on originality, melody, composition, and lyrics (when applicable). Songs may be entered in any of the following categories: Rock, Country, Jazz, Pop, World, Rhythm & Blues, Hip Hop, Gospel/Inspirational, Latin, Electronic, Folk, and Children's. Instrumental compositions are encouraged.

Winners, based on their level of achievement, will receive Studio Equipment from Roland, Boss, Audio-Technica, Mackie, JamHub, Gibson Guitars and Epiphone, 1000 CDs in full color with premium 6-panel Digipaks courtesy of Disc Makers, and gift certificates from MusiciansFriend.com. Past winners include John Lennon Songwriting Contest honoree Peter Cincotti, who became the youngest artist in history to top the Billboard Jazz Chart in 2002, 2006's Song of the Year Winner Gaby Moreno, who received an Emmy nomination for "Outstanding Main Title Theme Song" for NBC's hit show, "Parks and Recreation," 2008's Song of the Year winner Matt Cusson, whose debut album landed at #11 on the iTunes Jazz album chart, and 2011's Song of the Year winner Dean "DL" Leeson, the first-ever hip-hop artist to win the competition's prestigious prize.
