BAND TO PERFORM "POLISH GIRL"ON LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON WEDNESDAY (9.14) 12:35/11:35 C

New York...One of the bigger bloggy buzz bands to emerge in indie rock over the last two years, Neon Indian returns this Tuesday with the self-produced / Dave Fridmann-mixed Era Extraña (Mom + Pop Music). On the same day you can lose yourself in classic cyber-punk '80s film themes with the release of the video for "Polish Girl", which is a result of The Creators Project's The Studio, which produces and distributes works from artists representing a cross-section of creative disciplines.

See, there's this humanoid whose job is scanning people's bodies and thoughts in a dystopian world. One day he breaks free, but is forced to live as an outcast who spends his days trying to tap into the data and emotions of the woman who he fell in love with at first sight (or at first-scan). Produced in collaboration with Neon Indian, Mom + Pop Music and The Creators Project, Neon Indian leader Alan Palomo tapped video director Tim Nackashi (OK GO, TV on the Radio, Theophilus London, Death Cab for Cutie) to collaborate on the conception.

"When I first heard 'Polish Girl,' it immediately called to mind images of someone traveling through their own thoughts and memories as if they were floating in some kind of physical, digital space," says Nackashi, "or of someone trying to reach out through screens and across wires to be close with someone else. I started thinking about how new ideas for light-painting techniques with a tablet might be an essential part of the storyline for this song; maybe someone is drawing in the air with the data and memories of someone they admire, because it is all they will ever have."

For Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (Wednesday 9.14 | 12:35/11:35C) Neon Indian & The Creators Project will bring in elements from the scanning moments of the video into the projections that are playing during the performance. The band will be triggering these video clips and putting filters on them live, too, which will be much more fun for everyone involved and everyone watching! Connecting the live element with the video has been really exciting for Palomo and Nackashi.

"We used a ton of in-camera and post-effects to make this video happen." says Nackashi. "In post, we built 3D models of the girl which were used to create the light-painting effects, and also super-imposed onto the girl when she is being scanned."

The day of the album's release, Palomo will DJ an in-store at Other Music<http://www.othermusic.com/perl-bin/OM/html_proxy.cgi?filename=/sections-db/news.html&ID=7724039.17786> in NYC. Admission is free and the event lasts from 6 - 8 PM. Neon Indian's tour with Purity Ring and Com Truise<http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2011/07/neon_indian_ann_1.html> kicks off two days after the album's release.

Neon Indian is the brainchild of Alan Palomo, who's 2009 debut record Psychic Chasms not only earned the 20 year-old a spot on numerous year-end lists, but assisted the forming of a genre that, though known by a few names now (hypnagogic pop, glo-fi, chillwave), summoned a very unique and specific electro-mangled sound. Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and SPIN all praised Palomo for his adventurous new sound, and he was tapped to perform at top festivals like South by Southwest, Bonnaroo, and Sasquatch and also scored opening slots for bands ranging from Massive Attack and The Flaming Lips to Phoenix and Chromeo. Written and recorded last winter in an efficiency apartment in Helsinki, Finland during its short solstice days, Era Extraña was ice sculpted from arpeggiated synth-scapes and scribbled journal entries made during his stint there alone in constant solitude.

"(Neon Indian) has brought all the best summer sounds - bedroom production, borrowed nostalgia, unresolved sadness, deceptively agile popcraft - together on a single album."

"Full of danceable beats, carefree vocal melodies, and synth atmospheries inspired by Vangelis' Blade Runner score, the album plays like '80s pop refracted through a, yes, neon filter."

"(Psychic Chasms is) no-fi time travel at it's most raw and hypnotic"
