New Zealand’s Zowie Debuts New Track on Nylon Online
“Love Or Hate”!

Badass Antipodean Zowie has a brand new track to share with the world. The spritely, karate-loving, drum stick-wielding dynamo dropped her first mp3s on the world wide web late last year shortly after picking up rave reviews from her CMJ debut in October.

Zowie’s debut single down under - "Broken Machine" - gave her a Top 5 hit and gold single in her native New Zealand, and following electrifying performances at SXSW 2011 she was hand-picked by Mark Ronson, Katy Perry and Architecture in Helsinki as opener on their respective Australian and New Zealand tours.

The brand new track “Love or Hate”, is a coquettish battle of the sexes set to a brain worm beat, co-written and recorded in Toronto with Sebastien Grainger of recently-reformed Death From Above 1979. The track was mixed by Golden Globe and Academy Award winner, Michael Patterson(The Social Network), who’s worked with everyone from Beck to Nine Inch Nails.

Coming on like Joan Jett with a drum machine, Zowie has inspired comparisons in the press from Siouxsie Sioux and Chrissie Hynde to The Knife and The Ting Tings.

Each of her tracks distills a bubbling mix of vintage synth-pop, shimmering electro, playground chants and rock’n’roll swagger to create a sound all of her own.

Zowie is currently hard at work on her her debut album, to be released on Sony Music later this year.

Early praise For Zowie:

“…songs are riled-up dance music, often starting with a perky synthetic beat that shortly gets slammed against the dance floor by distorted rhythm guitar. Zowie tops the groove with a voice that has the quavers of Siouxsie Sioux… singing (and sometimes rapping) pronouncements like ‘You treat me like I am someone else’ and, even better, ‘I want to destroy you with sound’ - Jon Pareles, NY Times

“With beats reminiscent of The Knife on a not-so-dark day, and a hint of 80’s synths, it’s a right catchy tune.” – Filter Magazine

“Zowie’s stature doesn’t reflect her rambunctious vocals. The Auckland, New Zealand native has glitter and spark in each track” – New York Press

“Who knew scorchingly fresh pop music with zing and attitude would come striding out of New Zealand in the guise of a tiny, wiry pop minx named Zowie…Who cares, because that’s just what happened when the fierce and severe young pop star on the rise brought her talents to SXSW” – LOGO TV
“The Kiwi singer-songwriter with a penchant for percussion gets all dark and woodsy and tombstone-y on us and has us asking just one question: where do we sign up for a slot in her bad ass gang?” - Out Magazine

“Move over Lady Gaga, razor-sharp Zowie is the newest artist to take cues from Ziggy Stardust.” – Rollingstone Australia, Artists To Watch in 2011
