A special performance by Senegalese master-musician Baaba Maal will
re-air on The Africa Channel's Soundtracks at Red Kiva tonight and in
the coming week. Be sure to tune in tonight December 21 at 8 p.m. and
midnight EST, December 27 at 9 p.m. EST and December 28 at 11 a.m. EST.
for a front row seat as Baaba Maal sits down for an interview and
performs songs from his critically acclaimed, multi-lingual album
Television (Palm Pictures). Soundtracks, taped at the Red Kiva Lounge in
Chicago, offers intimate performances and interviews from Africa's most
popular artists and now Baaba Maal is among them, sharing his eclectic
blend of electronic dance elements and timeless West African musical

Not only has Baaba Maal had a rich and accomplished music career, his
humanitarian efforts are quite notable as well. Most recently, he spoke
about climate justice at the United Nations Climate Change Conference,
drawing attention to the challenges posed to Africa in the climate
change debate. Baaba serves as United Nation Development Programme Youth
Emissary and is intimately involved with efforts to uplift the lives of
youngsters in West Africa.  He also performed at Mandela Day earlier
this year at Radio City Music Hall in New York alongside such luminaries
as Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, Aretha Franklin, Josh Groban, Cyndi
