Always with the highest hope of delivering the sweetest words a cancer patient can hear: “No Evidence of Disease,” the band of gynecologist oncologists is getting ready to release their second album <b><u>6 Degrees</u></b> on <b>May 31<sup>st</sup></b> with a benefit show at <b>Drom</b> located at 85 Avenue A in New York City. The band’s name, N.E.D<i>., </i>is an abbreviation for “No Evidence of Disease.” The musicians are full-time practicing surgeons, researchers, and professors, and each is an expert in the field of cancer care. They come from all over the country: Alaska, Oregon, Louisiana, North Carolina, and New York; and connected musically for the first time at the 2008 Society of Gynecologic Oncologists Conference, where they performed cover songs at an evening mixer. In a study at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, investigators found that patients who received music therapy while undergoing chemotherapy reported 37% less mood disturbance than other patients and 28% less anxiety/depression. Other studies have shown that music can significantly assist patients in coping with difficult illnesses.
