One man: <b>Ben Vaughn</b>. Songwriter. Composer. Producer. Recording artist. Performer. A man the <i>Village Voice</i> describes as having a "sound so pure and spontaneous it sounds instantly classic." Touring only occasionally in Europe over the years, Ben will dust off his Telecaster and play a special show this <b><u>Saturday, April 9 at Maxwell’s</u></b> with his band, the <b>Ben Vaughn Quintet, </b>which includes <b>Gus Cordovox</b> (accordion), <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif"'>CC Crabtree</span></b><span style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif"'> (saxophone), <b>Mike Vogelmann</b> (bass) and <b>Seth Baer</b> (drums).<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif"'>Be it radio play, film soundtracks, sitcoms, or TV commercials, somewhere in the world right now,<b> </b>the Philly native’s music is being heard. 1983, he formed the Ben Vaughn Combo. The band was together five years, releasing two albums and touring the U.S. several times. They received rave reviews in Rolling Stone and People magazine and video airplay on MTV. The attention inspired Marshall Crenshaw to record Ben's "I'm Sorry (But So Is Brenda Lee)" for his "Downtown" album.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif"'>Since 1986, he has been winning fans with his unique take on pop culture. Nine albums (including the notorious remote recording and short film <i>Rambler ’65, </i>recorded entirely in his car), and a 10-year career in Hollywood have allowed Ben’s music to travel to the far reaches of the earth. He's also an in-demand producer who's worked with artist such as <b>Charlie Feathers, Arthur Alexander, Ween, Los Straitjackets, Alex Chilton<span style='color:#1F497D'> </span></b>and most recently, Jayhawks co-founder <b>Mark Olson</b>. But at the center of this activity beats the heart of a live performer. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif"'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif"'>In 1995, a guest appearance on KCRW's "Morning Becomes Eclectic" led directly to Vaughn being hired as the composer for the hit TV sitcom <i>3rd Rock From The Sun.</i> <i>That 70s Show</i> soon followed, and for the next 10 years Ben would provide award-winning music for a dozen other TV shows and pilots (<i>Men Behaving Badly, Normal, Ohio</i>, <i>Grounded For Life</i>"). Add to that an Italian dance hit (a re-mix of “Hey Romeo”) and airplay of “Jerry Lewis in France” on Bob Dylan’s radio show (complete with Dylan’s recitation of Ben’s resume), and you’re looking at what continues to be a very interesting career.
