Christopher Owens Announces First NYC Show; Lysandre to be performed in full at Le Poisson Rouge, Wednesday, November 14th
“ …(A) sweet show, almost a coronation, as it proved to fans that Owens could be just as powerful and moving without the Girls moniker. It also had the Lodge crowd counting the days until the album Lysandre arrives in January.” – Rolling Stone (November 10, 2012)
“Everything about Christopher Owens' solo debut show last Friday night felt special… his first post-Girls date could hardly have been lovelier.” – SPIN (November 12, 2012)

Following a truly stunning debut live performance of his forthcoming album, Lysandre, in the elegant Lodge at the Regency in San Francisco on Friday, former Girls frontman Christopher Owens has announced plans for a similar show in New York City at Le Poisson Rouge on November 14th. Tickets for the show sold out in 24 hours after Christopher’s Twitter announcement in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Lysandre - written, recorded and sequenced as a complete narrative - was inspired by the events of Girls’ first ever tour in the summer of 2008. Described by Owens as, “A coming of age story, a road trip story, a love story”, the album will be released on January 15th 2013 on Fat Possum and on Turnstile for the rest of the world. Lysandre's first two tracks,“Lysandre’s Theme” and “Here We Go”, are currently streaming on his new website www.christopherowensonline.com<http://www.christopherowensonline.com/>. Upon posting of the tracks last month "Here We Go" was immediately #1 most blogged track on HypeMachine.
More early praise for Christopher Owens & Lysandre:
“The Lysandre material was as musically adventurous as its subject matter: Owens and his band weaved together elements of folk, prog, punk, pop, calypso and pure AM Gold… "Here We Go" was like a lost track off Lou Reed's similarly Manhattan-indebted Coney Island Baby. However, Owens didn't completely abandon his Girls roots: The rocker "Here We Go Again" had the Elvis Costello/Graham Parker vibe showcased on Father, Son, Holy Ghost, and the centerpiece title track, "Lysandre," is as epic as Girls' "Vomit," albeit gentler and more breathtaking.” – Rolling Stone (November 10, 2012)
“"Here We Go" is a gently strummed and sweetly sung plea ("Listen to me sing, New York City") that resembles the soft, slow-building tracks that lightly punctuated the end of Father, Son, Holy Ghost. As Girls tracks often did, the song eventually finds strength in its own fragility…” - Pitchfork
“Not quite a pure pop song... It’s as melodramatic as a scene from a 1970s movie version of a Shakespeare play, yet as genuine as every other contribution he’s made to the general psyche of his teen and teen-at-heart fanbase.” – V Man
“The magic of Owens is his capacity to mould his tales of heartbreak and despair into consistently flawless pop songs…” – NME
“During his performance, Owens love for beautiful pop songs was evident. His gentle, earnest crooning is the album’s backbone, enhanced by the addition of sweet backup vocals, saxophone, flute, harmonica, bass, guitar, keyboard and drums. Owens is a songwriter first and foremost, and he has shown, that despite a different sound that’s still his greatest talent.” – Stereogum
Written almost entirely in one creative outpouring and recorded with former Girls producer Doug Boehm, Lysandre follows Owens fromSan Francisco to New York City and on to the French Riviera before a melancholy return home and a beautifully articulated epilogue. Perfectly framed by intricate instrumentation, gorgeous backing vocals and pristine production, Owens’ enthralling, personal songwriting takes center stage and delivers a heartbreaking rumination on love, longing, friendship, adventure and the thrill of finding an audience for your art.
