Hello!
Press Here has some great artists in town this week - let us know if
you'd like to check out any of these shows!
XYLOS * March 8 @ Mercury Lounge * 6:30 pm
Brooklyn's own electro-pop quintet XYLOS will be playing an early show
at the Mercury Lounge on Tuesday, March 8, 6:30 pm. They'll be joining
multi-platinum Johannesburg, South African pop band The Parlotones for
this show, with whom they'll be doing 2 weeks of US dates this March, as
well as making their debut appearances at SxSW. XYLOS' self-titled
debut album, recorded by Yeasayer and Chairlift producer Britt Myers
will be released April 5, 2011 on the band's 1000x Records imprint as
well as through all digital platforms. This stunning first release
introduces us to the band's sophisticated-yet-playful songs featuring
lush harmonies, clever, catchy electronic beats and soaring vocal
melodies that draw on influences ranging from Cocteau Twins, Kate Bush,
the Eurythmics and Steve Reich. Their live shows are mesmerizing and
magical, with singer/multi-instrumentalist Monika Heidemann's
otherworldly vocal stylings and striking stage presence making for an
intoxicating show. Xylos has been receiving airplay on tastemaker
stations KEXP, KCRW and MPR's The Current, Sirius/XM OutQ and more,
gathering fans and praise for their lush, '80s-inspired pop.
Praise for Xylos:
" ["Darling Dearest"] is like a female-fronted Hot Chip song mashed up
with a Field Mice song." - New York Press
"A little bit ABBA, and a little bit Kate Bush, Xylos have developed a
unique sound that paints the world like only they know how. " - New York
Post Popwrap Blog "10 Artists to Know in 2011"
"Beautiful, eclectic music, combing vocal melodies and electronic sounds
with guitar, drums, bass, keyboards creating upbeat, happy music set to
dark, mysterious lyrics." - Filter.com
"Xylos trades in sing-along songs with a minimum of noise and a surfeit
of jangling bells for audible lyrics, chirpy keyboards, the occasional
string section, and high harmonies that wouldn't be out of place on some
particularly winsome Belle & Sebastian single." - Onion A.V. Club

BRIGHT EYES * March 8th & 9th @ Radio City Music Hall
Last month saw the eagerly awaited release of Bright Eyes' seventh
studio album, The People's Key (Saddle Creek). Recorded in Omaha,
Nebraska at the band's own ARC Studios, The People's Key was produced by
Mike Mogis and engineered by Mogis and Andy LeMaster. Since 2006 the
once revolving cast of Bright Eyes players has settled around permanent
members Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis and Nathaniel Walcott, with additional
musicians joining them in the studio and on tour. For all of Bright
Eyes' previous atmospherics, The People's Key finds the band at their
most impressively synergistic. The band will be bringing their new
material to New York City for TWO nights at Radio City Music Hall
supported by WILD FLAG and Superchunk on March 8th and 9th.

Praise For 'The People's Key':
"...a return to the bruised-angel indie rock of his earliest albums...
The People's Key contains some of his most weighty songwriting...He
manages to be everything at once: folkie and punk, old soul and eternal
boy, high-plains drifter and hipter heartthrob. He's busy being born
again every time he strums a chord." - Rolling Stone
"This is the best record Bright Eyes has ever made. In fact, it's the
best record the band's frontman, Conor Oberst, has ever been a part
of... The People's Key is a career-defining work of art." - Robin
Hilton, NPR Music
"He's never been as open-minded and psychedelic...or displayed such
even-keeled acceptance...The People's Key proves Oberst has learned to
balance a cutting perspective with a bleeding heart." - Spin
"Key is rife with cosmic eccentricities, blended genres and uplifting
choruses, all neatly corralled by Oberst's keen songwriting and the
band's skilled musicianship." - USA Today
"Oberst's trembling, echo-drenched vocals, biting lyrics and an air of
sadness... a pop-smart pop record maybe his best yet"- Vanity Fair
"It's a tone of embrace - of experience, electronic timbres,
enlightenment - that the seventh Bright Eyes album strikes" - Washington
Post

MEN * March 9th @ Bowery Ballroom
MEN, featuring Le Tigre's JD Samson, will be kicking off their US tour
this Wednesday March 9th at the Bowery Ballroom in support of their
provocative debut album Talk About Body. The songs on the record are
complex, blasting with synths, wiry guitar lines, slinky bass parts,
club-ready beats, and catchy choruses. MEN shows are known for their
high energy, combining politics with dance parties, and art with
activism. The band treats each show as an art project, sometimes asking
local artists to paint a backdrop while they perform. These wild
performances landed them tours opening for The Gossip and Peaches in
America, as well as doing their own headlining runs in the U.S. and
overseas. You never know what's going to happen-so don't miss out on
this experience at the Bowery Ballroom!
Praise for Talk About Body:
"Their lyrics dance merrily over the music, which itself bops along in
fine electro-dance fashion." - New York Daily News
"pretty remarkable as a political and musical polemic." - New York
Times
"Talk About Body mixes dance with politics and the results are
completely irresistible." - Under The Radar

HOLLERADO * March 11th @ Bowery Ballroom w. Fang Island
Hot on the heels of their U.S. tour opening for Gang of Four, Hollerado
are back in NYC to play Bowery Ballroom with Fang Island. The Juno award
nominees made a splash this year with their one-take video for
"Americanarama" which has received nearly 800,000 views
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Whv1tLqKZig ). They spent much of 2010
on the road with Free Energy, and released their stellar debut album,
Record in a Bag on Arts & Crafts. Their live set is joyful and full of
energy and a confetti machine is a staple of every gig they play.
They've become big favorites at esteemed radio stations like KEXP and
are hosting one of their "Nacho House" parties at SXSW year, which
consists of a curated line-up of bands and, as the name suggest, nachos.
The band even created their own brand of hot sauce, which they sell with
them on the road.

the year." - Exclaim!

THE WELLSPRING * March 12th @ Rockwood 2
In the midst of a U.S. tour opening for Pete Yorn and Ben Kweller, Los
Angeles duo The Wellspring will be playing a free show at Rockwood 2
this Saturday! The Wellspring's Dov Rosenblatt and Talia Osteen's
meeting was kismet. Dov Rosenblatt was the lead singer and guitarist of
a local New York City band that led him to meet with Talia Osteen, then
VP at a film production company, about placing his music in their films.
Talia fell in love with Dov's music, and Dov discovered that Talia
herself had sung in a band, prior to her career in film. Months later,
mutual fans of each other, the two decided to take a stab at writing
together. Talia sent Dov a torrent of poems. It was these poems that
sparked him to write music fervently into the wee hours of morning. It
was this music that inspired her to sing again. Within a week, the
collaboration spawned over a dozen songs. Moved by this current of
creativity, Talia quit her job and the duo journeyed west to record The
Wellspring EP, which was recently rerelease with two bonus tracks.
