DEBBIE HARRY * June 9th @ Concert for NYC  in Central Park
With the web abuzz with Blondie's brand new video for lead single "Mother,"<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXX8rUV4p9A>  excitement for the new record is in the air! But before we are treated to an incredible new Blondie album (set for release September 13th), Debbie Harry will join the Black Eyed Peas as a special guest for their Concert for NYC this Thursday, June 9th in Central Park. The concert benefits the Robin Hood Foundation's efforts to fight poverty in New York City and the Black Eyed Peas Peapod Foundation. Debbie will be among several other guests for this one-of-a-kind evening, including Carole King, Natasha Bedingfield, LL Cool J and Whoopi Goldberg.

Laura Marling Tuesday, June 14th @ Housing Works Book Store Café
British singer, songwriter and guitarist Laura Marling will make a return Stateside next week to give us lucky New Yorkers a sneak peak of exciting new material. She will be playing solo at a one-off benefit show on Tuesday, June 14th at The Housing Works Book Store Café. Since her emergence onto the London music scene in 2007 Laura Marling has been steadily securing her position as one of the most exciting musical talents of her generation. The last time Marling graced us with her musical presence, The New York Times praised her live music as "...attest[ing] to something durable: the British folk traditions that were renewed by trad-rock of the 1960s. Ms. Marling has chosen a heritage of modal, Celtic-rooted melodies and intricate yet unassuming guitar parts, and she uses them to write songs that face the worst....she makes music that's haunted, but somehow, through sheer stoic willpower, serene." At just 21 years old - Laura is making a significant impact on the music of a new generation, this show is not one to miss.

Gruff Rhys w/ Y Niwl Wednesday, June 15th @ Mercury Lounge
Gruff Rhys, the mad-cap Welsh soloist and singer/songwriter for celebrated Welsh space rock outfit Super Furry Animals will be finishing off his stateside tour with a second performance in NYC on June 15th at the Mercury Lounge. Touring in support of his third solo effort, Hotel Shampoo out last month on Witchita Recordings, Gruff Rhys' live show is a unique display of his musicianship and humor. The title of the record is a reference to Gruff's unfortunate habit of hoarding mini shampoo bottles and other complimentary hotel products whilst on tour. The album is filled with shimmering slices of kaleidoscopic, cinematic pop. The Sunday Independent (UK) said "No man in Britain<http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/reviews/album-gruff-rhys-hotel-shampoo-ovniturnstile-2213669.html> has a lovelier voice than Rhys, and if you're looking for meanderingly melodic psych-pop, you wouldn't turn to anyone else first." while Pitchfork hails the album as "...expertly mastered..." Alana Amram & the Rough Gems  - Monday, June 13 @ Maxwell's; Wednesday,  June 15 @ Bruar Falls; Thursday, June 16  @ Teddy's in Williamsburg
Alana Amram, an NYC-based folk and twang artist, has three area shows where she'll premiere songs from her sophomore release, Snow Shadows: Songs of Vince Martin (digital release June 21, physical release August 30 on Kingswood Records).  Vince Martin, a 50/60s NYC folk artist known for his work with The Tarriers and Fred Neil, was rediscovered by such current artists as Thurston Moore (who performed with Vince), which led to the reissue of his classic 1969 cult classic,  If the Jasmine Don't Get You the Bay Breeze Will,  recorded in Nashville with the same band that backed Dylan on Nashville Skyline.  Alana's pure, compelling voice is the perfect vehicle for these songs  and the album's warm, analog sound is complemented by such stellar players as Van Dyke Parks, John Sebastian and Jesse Lauter.  It's a little bit folk, a dash countrypolitan (thanks to Van Dyke Park's gorgeous string arrangements) and isn't quite like anything you've ever heard. Time Out NY has called Alana's work "...graceful, intelligent country-pop. She's got a clear, arresting voice and a gift for quirky romantic imagery."
