NEW YORK, NY November 5, 2012-In case you missed it, JANINA GAVANKAR, EDM's newest heroine, premiered her video for her debut single, "Waiting for Godot," on Billboard.com! Released on Friendship Collective, the single is available now on digital platforms.

With a mutual love for acting and music (Gavankar may seem familiar from acting roles that include shape-shifter "Luna Garza" from HBO'sTrue Blood), she enlisted her artist collective of former colleagues to help create the chilling visual component to the song.
"Once I was done with "Waiting for Godot," musically, I started looking at a million music video directors and realized what I wanted was the original team of people I'd collaborated with to make my video for 'Love Lockdown,'" says Gavankar. In addition to Pashalek, Logan Schneider was enlisted as director of photography and Ian Lyman as editor. "In all things art, I love the intimacy of collaboration and am so lucky to have abnormally talented friends who have helped create something special visually and musically."
Because Gavankar is also busy filming, she was forced to shoot the video in a day and played multiple roles within the artsy visual.  "I called Pashalek and we started brainstorming ideas," says Gavankar on creating the treatment and putting the production together.  "I wasn't interested in a typical music video, because it is not a typical song and I am not a typical artist."
The video tells the story of two entities, dealing individually and together, in search for an unrequited "something." Both symbolize two sides and extremes to every one person and how that effects oneself coping with the unknown. Gavankar plays dual roles in the video- someone seemingly perfect and pure and someone raw and disturbed. After deciding to take action in their search, the two entities part ways and walk off into the "unknown," much like the same-titled play by Samuel Beckett. Gavankar and company visually set the entities against a blank, vast plane, full of ambiguous textures where they are forced to fend for themselves. One is seemingly invigorated by the search, while the other is increasingly frightened. This storyline in conjunction with double exposures and overlays create for an intriguing piece of art that asks the viewer, "what do you see?"
Gavankar also describes the making of the video as a fascinating exercise as an actor, "to be feeling out these sides of one's self, singing the same song, but seeing it from completely different perspectives."
She can be seen as "Shiva" on The League, gearing up for a recurring role on the new Fox comedy, The Goodwin Games, and returns to the set of True Blood  in January.  Gavankar is also currently in the studio working on a collection of songs, visuals and other art collaborations to be cohesively released in early 2013.
